Renee’s Answer

1. You will know bad/sad things about people and not be able to talk to them about it. Many ultrasounds are not read in the room with the patient while the scan is being done. It is sent out to be read by a radiologist later, then the referring physician gives the good/bad news. It is your job to take the pictures, and take them perfectly, then help the patient clean up and go home. You need to be able to keep an emotional distance and not react to what you see on the screen. This is not a job for everyone-you might see cancer on a daily basis.

2. I would start my educational institution research by talking to the employers who are hiring for the position you want. Ask them which programs/colleges they prefer to hire from. An email to the HR department at your local hospital might get you the information you need. Do not spend your time and money at an institution which local healthcare providers refuse to hire from - my friend made this mistake.

3. You will be helping people on a daily basis and will be up close and personal with them. Despite the challenges above, it could be very rewarding to know you are doing your best for them.

Great! you are going to opt for a sub-specialty of medicine, there are questions before I answer you specifically, like, are you a medical doctor, or

a medical school student or a biological sciences student, the answer shall be specific to each category, I hope you should explain clearly about

your present academic status.
