Hi Patrick, many community colleges offer Automotive Technology programs that will provide you with industry-standard training programs to become an automotive technician (mechanic). Many mechanics become ASE Certified (Automotive Service Excellence) through the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, and one of the benefits of attending a community college auto program is that their curriculums are often accredited with ASE and the courses count towards the service time required to be eligible to test for the certificate.

I recommend exploring an associate's degree in automotive technology because it provides you with additional opportunities later on. I have networked with individuals who started out as automotive mechanics and later transitioned to roles in corporate offices at major automotive manufacturers where their AA played a significant role in their career transition, whether that be in dealership support or as a product engineer.

Best of luck to you!
