Nevaeh,
We don't want you feeling that you have to go to college to get a well-paying job. I met an 18 year old young man who was learning the plumbing trade from the ground up with a company that pays its employees to attend classes, pays the cost of the testing for their licensing, etc. Skilled trades is reputable work, and, sometimes pays well.
You don't say a word about anything of interest to you. The type of degree and amount of education depends on the profession - anywhere from 2-7 years, or longer. Most people get either a 2 or 4 year degree. If you are determined to get a degree but don't know what you want to do, I'd recommend a 2 year degree. Many employers offer tuition assistance. So once you figure it out, hopefully you can get the employer to help with the cost of years 3 and 4.
Another option is to take the military entrance exam. ASVAB. Even if you don't want to go in the military. It's a pretty good test at identifying your aptitudes - areas where you have the ability to excel, once you are properly trained. And, don't be quick to say no to starting out in the military. They provide some top-notch training - say, maybe you want to be a chef??? or an underwater welder????? lots of other training.
Finally, a word about money. A "well-paying" job isn't the end-all be-all. If you have to work 70 hours a week to get it, it's not worth it (some attorney positions). You also want to look at the cost of living in the different geographic areas. If a job pays $80,000 a year, but a nice apartment is $4000 a month, that might not be so great. If you want to live a life of luxury, then the money is important. If you can live modestly, but just need enough to not have to worry about "what if my car breaks down?" then a lot more opportunities are out there. And, if you learn to manage your money, have an emergency fund, and live within your means, there's a lot more out there. So, a lot depends on the standard of living you are trying to establish.
Hope this has been of some help!

How long to I have to be in college to get a well-paying job? Normally, you would have to graduate from college to get a well-paying job, BUT that is FAR from guaranteed. If you do not get a specialized 4 year degree, then do not expect to get a very well-paying job. You could also go to a trade school and learn a skilled trade. You do not have to go to college to get a well-paying job. So, that is a 4 year minimum at college. Since, most basic college degrees do not do much for you to get a well-paying job, a lot of people, go for their Masters degree to help their future. A Masters would be at least another 2 years. I suggest you go for a specialized degree, at least, Engineering or Biology for your 4 year degree. You will get the most 'bang for your buck' that way.
What do I have to do to get a well-paying job? You have to be convincing and really want it. The credentials will definitely help. Try to be both 'book smart' and 'street smart.' Never sell yourself short. Go for the highest starting salary that you can get.
When is it the best time to go to college? As soon as you graduate from high school. (after Summer, of course) Or go to a trade school right away too.
How much do I have to pay to get into a good college? It is very expensive. Many times $24,000 a semester, plus all kinds of other fees. So, if you cannot afford it, you will have to consider a junior college. Jr. colleges are much less expensive.
