Yes! As a marine biologist i majored in Phycology (the study of algae) and Benthic ecology as well.
I spend most of my work hours going to the sea for research samples with my plankton nets and Vanveen grab. Other days i spend my time in the marine lab, viewing and identifying different algae or benthic species. Marine biology is vast. Pick what interests you the most!

I have a PhD in Chemical Oceanography- a bit different, but the answer is yes. I am a research professor and the best part of each day is that they are all very different. Some days I plan fieldwork, or fix an instrument, other days I am digging through data trying to understand what the biology is telling me and what the implications are. That said, like any job, it is a job. There are days I don't enjoy too. Some days I am in the lab super late because an instrument is broken or I can't figure out what is wrong with a particular data analysis I am doing. Some days when organizing a field camp it is no fun because members of the team are injured and you need to work through those problems as the person in charge.
