Janel’s Answer

Hello Kailey- Great question.
I am studying Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The specialty of industrial-organizational psychology (also called I/O psychology) is characterized by the scientific study of human behavior in organizations and the workplace. The specialty focuses on deriving principles of individual, group and organizational behavior and applying this knowledge to the solution of problems at work. I have always enjoyed people and learning and understanding all the intricacies that make them operate. Diversity in people I believe are our greatest assets and if we understand them, we can make the workplace better. This specialty addresses issues of recruitment, selection and placement, training and development, performance measurement, workplace motivation and reward systems, quality of work life, structure of work and human factors, organizational development and consumer behavior. I have worked at a large company for the past 16 years and I wanted a way to make a different type of impact. In my roles as Sr. Project Program Manager or Team Sales Manager, at work and in my personal life, learning human behavior has allowed me to more easily work with others.
Hope this helps, best of luck :)

Álvaro’s Answer

My interest in psychology started when I was young, during my adolescence, when I started reading Freud's works. Both psychology and philosophy always fascinated me. So I started studying psychology right after my secondary education. And then I realized how much I enjoyed listening to other people. So psychology as a career gave me the opportunity to integrate my personal interests, listening and helping other people with their issues, and do it as a job. So, yes, I can say now that I'm working doing what I love, which is no small thing. ;)
