Fred’s Answer

My first thought would be to get a degree in theatre.

Thank you comment icon If you have a degree in theater, what other options do you have for employment? Is a degree in the performing arts required to work in the field, and if so, what kinds of employment pay well with this degree? Akio
Thank you comment icon A degree is not required to work in theatre as far as I know. Other options - well...i work in I.T. I did go back to school and took CS classes, but never got any other degree that a B.A. in theatre. You shouldn't consider choosing your degree based on what pays well. You should choose your degree based on what you enjoy doing. It doesn't matter how much a job pays if you hate doing it every day. Fred Rosenberger

I was very interested in being a theater major too! You coukd be an actual theater major for performance, or you can do things like dance, or my favorite theater education so you can teach people theater!

Margaret’s Answer

It is preferable to follow a course that certifies that you have undergone training.
But above all, follow your deep intuition that takes your guts and stay focused with this strength for the rest of your life, even during the worst moments of your life path. Don't let anyone distract you from your vision and don't put your personal power in the hands of another person, even if they want you well.
Good luck.

Audrey’s Answer

Hi Max!

I went to a theater school for high school and generally those who went on to study theater in college either applied for a BFA (Bachelors of Fine Arts) in theater or a BA (Bachelor of Arts) in theater. Depending on the school it might be called different things like acting or performance. Musical theater programs also can have BA and/or BFA degrees.

Generally BFA programs have more requirements in the application (an interview, audition etc.) but that's less common with a BA. You are also correct There are also programs that offer degrees in theater management, theater studies, etc.

Good luck!
