My first question to you would be, do you have any relevant experience? Second, you will likely need a vulnerable background check which can take some time and can be quite expensive.
Neither of my questions are meant to try to talk you out of your noble career choice! I worked as a teacher for several years and focused heavily on mental health in the classroom. It is very difficult, but extremely rewarding work, and I think searching out an internship is a great way to see if it is a good fit for you. Because you are looking to work with a vulnerable population, an internship might be tough. There are likely volunteer positions that you could look into that would look great on a resume, as a first step.
Schools and social workers are hesitant to take on interns unless they are part of a school program, in my experience.
I hope that helps!
