Hi Avery!

I wanted to comment and let you know that becoming a licensed real estate agent is a great job! You will have the flexibility to make it your full time job or a part time job if you'd like. You also will have the ability to make great professional and personal relationships in this field.

Hey Avery, great question!

While I'm not a broker, I have worked in the commercial/residential real estate space for a few years and know several brokers. Becoming a real estate agent is a simple process - as Antonio mentioned, all you need to do is obtain a real estate license that needs to be renewed every two years. In terms of what you can do in school to help you become a successful broker, I suggest taking courses around real estate, negotiations, and economics courses. However, in reality, there is no one path to become an agent and courses are not necessarily needed - everything I mentioned can also be learned by either doing, studying (reading books), or speaking to experts in the space (other brokers). Great real estate brokers are amazing at managing relationships, but excellent brokers are those who understand the real estate market (whether commercial or residential) and are able to negotiate the best deal for their clients!

Hopefully this helps and best of luck!

Jeremy

ANTONIO’s Answer

You can become a real estate agent in about four to six months, depending on where you live. The general steps to earning a license include taking the real estate prelicensing course and licensing exam, and then activating your license, and joining a brokerage.
Only real estate agents who are members of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) can use the title of Realtor and must subscribe to NAR's strict Code of Ethics
