How to work in the health information management field?
I am interested in getting a certification in health information management (HIM) or a masters in HIM. How can I seek an internship in this field to get experience? What requirements are needed to work in this field?

I've found the best way to start is to find someone in that field and make an appointment to go see them. I don't know anyone who doesn't like talking about what they do! Check at colleges and universities near you to see who has programs and they most likely know someone working in the field.
Thank you!

I agree with Katherine - look into Hospitals, Clinics, Drug/Pharma companies, and Biotech. Get searching on Google! Aslo look into certification programs or degrees in this field. Lots of schools offer this. Look into "Health Informatics". Good luck.

Hi you can get certifications online from google or EDX online which I have done for PMP and Leadership. EDX has various university programs.

Hi Thao, there are a couple of areas where you can look for work experience: clinical trial comapnies/pharma, and health systems/hospitals. Go to LinkedIn or Indeed and look up "health information management" to see if any internships turn up. Do this to look at entry level jobs too. Read job descriptions to learn what kind of skills you should be trying to get through work experience. This is what I do for my own career development.
