Rama’s Answer
Hi Kyrese,
Great question:
1. The answer is to know coding and programming and listing them on your resume
2. If you have real world experience then mention the projects, technical skills and accomplishments that becomes your exp
3. If you have enrolled to a course, at self study or freelance - list all of them
4. Share any urls or github repo or project you developed
5. If none, create a profile with an strong objective expressing your interest and passion, and if you are looking for a mentor or need training
Companies like to see the passion, interest and curiosity to learn. If you can showcase this in a short and brief profile and write a cover letter expressing your interest, you sure can get a chance to speak to the hiring teams. As you speak you learn about what the companies do and are looking for so you can develop your interest to align to their businesses.
Was this useful?! Be sure to ask more. Wishing you the best!

Svitlana’s Answer
Hi Kyrese,
yes, experience is more important, but do not hesitate to apply for role because of lack of experience.
The job description often is a "wish list". If you have knowledge, please apply.
I hope you will get the job soon.
Good luck!

Mickael’s Answer
Hi Kyrese,
To answer your question " important to have experience or credentials?"
experience.
When we look to hire a new developer, software engineer or I.T. person, we want to hire someone we have confident that will be able to do something with both her brain and fingers. Therefore, we will look at your experience, mainly.
Having credentials might be helpful to but not if you cannot prove you have been able to do something in the past.
If you are a student, or young graduate, we would set the expectations as low as they need to. Few had the chance at this time to have worked on important projects. But they should have worked on some.
Most of the interview questions will be about how you did one thing or another. Your experience is really what will help here.

Thank you so much, Mickael I'm happy I choose going to a trade school to further my experience first.

When it comes to the biggest requirement for new applicants in programming and coding, it can vary depending on the specific job and employer. However, some general requirements that are typically looked for include:
Programming skills: Strong programming skills in one or more programming languages such as C++, Python, Java, and JavaScript are important for most programming and coding positions.
Problem-solving skills: Being able to think critically and creatively to solve problems is an important skill for programmers and coders, as they will be required to tackle complex and challenging tasks on a regular basis.
Attention to detail: Programming requires a high level of attention to detail, as even small errors in code can cause big problems.
Strong analytical skills: Being able to understand and analyze data is an important skill for programmers and coders, as they will be required to make sense of data and extract insights from it.
Experience with software development methodologies: Knowledge of software development methodologies such as Agile and Scrum can be beneficial.
In regards to the second question, whether it is more important to have experience or credentials in IT jobs, it is not a one-sided coin. Both experience and credentials are important, but their importance can vary depending on the specific job and employer. Some employers may value experience more, while others may prioritize credentials or a combination of both. However, having both can make an applicant more marketable and open more opportunities.

Hi Kyrese,
As Mickael said, it's experience. Credentials are pluses and perhaps more on the infrastructure side they are nice-to-haves, but you are generally going to get hired based on your experience.

Experience is usually more important but credentials may help. For beginners, there is sometimes a catch22 situation.
The person needs experience to get hired, but she/he needs to get hired to get the experience!
But this is not as much of a dilemma as it looks because some places need people who do not have
much experience to fill starter positions (that can later grow into more experienced positions.)
The credentials may help those starting people get their foot in the door more often.
