The opportunities available will depend on the size of the police department you choose, i.e., patrol, criminal investigations, bike patrol, horse mounted units, SWAT/tactical, K-9, crime prevention, etc. You start in patrol, where you will be a first responder, to emergencies and taking reports, working accidents, etc. This will give you a solid foundation interacting with your community, being there for citizens when they have no one else to help them or simply answering questions they may have....you may end up even changing a few flat tires.

Research agencies in your area and decide on the one that most appeals to your interests.

Hey there,

So there are a lot of factors that play into how your typical day as a police officer goes to include what division and shift you are on. Some days you might be hopping from one call to the next with no time in between to write your report and others there is nothing to do but ride around.
