I graduated high-school and I am confused which major should i enter

My high school GPA is high and throughout the year, I planned to go into engineering because of my grades in math and physics. But after I graduated, I found my interest in #moviesproduction, #Digitalanimation, #gameandInteractiveMediadesign, and all the subjects regarding #movies, #Media and #fame. I am hesitated to enter the Filmmaking majors and animations majors is because everyone is telling me that it's hard to find a job after I graduate from the University. I need an advice should I go for engineering and take lectures for my interests?

Hope’s Answer

If it possible for you to do both - major in engineering and pursue studies in film/animation - then by all means you should do so. When we are in school it can be difficult to imagine what life will be like more than a few years beyond graduation. You likely will have more than one job in your career, and the more skills and interests that you have, the more opportunities. You may find a way to combine engineering and film into a career; even if you don't you can certainly make films as an avocation - many people do.

Best of luck in whatever you decide!
Thank you comment icon Thank you, Mr. Hope. So you mean I study engineering and take courses in my interests (film/animation), which I start working on them as an avocation? Mohanned
Thank you comment icon Yes, engineering could be your main course of study and you could take classes in film/animation. There is nothing wrong with being an engineer who likes to make films. Or you might use your engineering skills to develop some aspect of the technology that drives animation. The important thing to right now is to study hard and get a good foundation in both of these areas so that more opportunities are available to you in the future. Hope P.

In today's world, with technology changing so quickly, you have to be a lifelong learner. There is a time commitment to these courses so you won't have time if you are in enrolled in a strenuous engineering program. Yes, donit inbthe summer.

Don't stress too much about your decision, since many people end up switching or adding majors/minors a year or two (or more!) into college and still graduate on time, myself included. Start with what interests you the most; what can you spend hours doing or learning about without getting bored? There are jobs out there for both, more or less depending on location. Secondly, I'll add that the school I graduated from, RIT, has a program that combines some of your interests in a major called Motion Picture Science. Check it out!
Thank you comment icon I am just so confused. I am more intersted in animation but I am not really not sure because either I love it more or because it looks easier to me. my parents insist that I go for engineering because my science and math grades were high. Mohanned

You should persue what you are interested in, however you can still major in engineering with a comp/Avi specialization. If your university offers courses in the disciplines you are interested in you should take those, otherwise take online courses in those disciplines. Udacity offers a course in Virtual Reality and is project based with Unity Software.
Thank you comment icon Thank you so much!! that was Helpful. I have applied in many universities waiting for admissions. Do you recommend me taking the online courses during summer vacation and at the University I go for engineering and take it as a backup certificate, however after I finish engineering, I continue following my interests Mohanned
