Name recognition is not irrelevant, but you are more likely to be successful and get potential recommendation/ referral letters if you choose causes you are more passionate about.
Regardless of the organizations themselves, it can be helpful to people who will read your resume if you focus on summarizing the skills you demonstrated or what you contributed to the organization where you volunteer. You can show this regardless of the community service org you work with.

Hi Zi'ez, great question!
It's definitely a great idea to demonstrate the community service you've done on your resume. I would definitely recommend looking into community service opportunities that will give you some experience in a field you're interested in, or just that you are passionate about! Remember that if someone invites you to an interview because you have a great resume, it's important you are able to speak on that experience!

Best of luck!

Hi Zi'ez! I think you should stick to causes that you are genuinely passionate about vs. choosing ones that will look good because it shows that you are driven by passion and shows your authenticity.

Many find a route of easy and effortless volunteering but the one that catches one’s eyes are listed as an examples:
1) Helping Homeless shelters.
2) Helping in the Nursing homes.
3) Travel to a disaster area and help with Habitat for Humanity.
4) Go to a neighborhood where many parents are doing multiple jobs to make ends meet - children needs tutoring, mentoring and guidance.
Do not fake it - employers will verify it.
