Is it possible after high school to pursue 2 major, one in biomedical engineering and another in medcine with a minor in cyber security?#Fall22

The fact is that i want to be a biomedical engineer because i just admire the fact that with the help of our knowledge we can create tools to facilitate medical intervention and be a medical doctor because the feeling that you can save some ones live is just amazing.

You're going to have to commit to one or the other. You can't be a master of all things. Research and make a decision then put your all into whatever you choose.

Thank you comment icon I'm glad I was able to help. Know Thyself is the key here. Know what you are good at and then plot your future. Don't settle for temporary market demand, try to dream bigger but in a realistic way. A lot of people end up settling for easy money but end up marrying disappointment in a career they end up hating. The goal is happiness and that mean merging skills, a vision and a realistic appraisal of the market. Also, try to support the ESG goals. You'll find you have a lot more help from others if you can align with them. Allen Botnick DC CNIM

Rita’s Answer

Anything is possible but it will be challenging. Premed students need to study a lot and there are limited spots for doctors. If you have a minor or have 2 majors, you will need to spend more time studying very challenging courses. It's possible but difficult. It however may make you stand out if you want to go into medical school because you are different from the other candidates.

Well I do believe anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it. The problem is would you be able to cope with the stress of both majors. Both majors are really tasking and time consuming so I'll say you take the one you are most interested in and go for it with the minor. And if after that you feel you can go for the second major, why not?
You can do anything you put your mind to

Shannon’s Answer

there are probably some programs already set up for MD + bioengineering. check that out.
i also suggest you change your mindset & how you express these desires. i would say 'i want to combine MD skills with bioeng in order to accomplish something specific (e.g. curing cancer)'. your current phrasing puts more emphasis on feelings and less on curing diseases. i'd also avoid using the word 'just' because it minimizes whatever comes after it - like, it's just a flesh wound.
do you want to actually save lives? or just know you could? your current phrasing will sound weak to your med school interviewers.
personally i don't see cybersecurity relating to medicine. i guess if you wanted to write medical software that can't be hacked, that would be a use for it. that kind of sounds like the next version of CSI or something. you could major or minor in cybersec in undergrad (or major in bioeng and minor in cybersec) and probably learn everything you'd need to know before starting med school.
believe everyone when they say med school is harder than you can imagine & you won't want any distractions. :)
