During college I worked as an undergraduate and graduate research assistant. It was a paid position and it gave me an opportunity to gain hands on experience in research in my field. The faculty members I worked for provided mentorship and made great references for internships and future jobs.

I was the student secretary for the History department at my university. It was a volunteer position, but it allowed me to gain administrative knowledge. I also got the opportunity to connect with many scholars and professors from other universities. That helped me a great deal with my graduate studies.
