what are... some pros and cons of working IT versus Nursing Is there, Any tips to get a boost in pay?

I'd like to work for mayo clinic. If you have any tips about making friends in the work space... I'm open to advice. What are the requirements for each job?

Thank you comment icon William, You ask about working at Mayo Clinic. And you're interested in IT. And you're interested in nursing. I encourage you to review your goals and to write down WHY you want to work at Mayo Clinic. Also, write down what interests you in IT and also in nursing, in hopes of finding whatever there is between the two that may help you toward a decision. Once you've done that, then please rewrite your question, such that it provides an opening for a professional here to give you some insight. All the best. david kirk

Eileen’s Answer

As a longtime nurse that entered IT I can say there are definite reward for both. I loved (and miss) bedside nursing relative to the reward of caring for patients and the science of healthcare, the changes every day as to patients and the finite shift work. IT on the otherhand does not have the shift work (we at one time were working all shifts around the clock depending on what was happening - going live at the time, etc.). Less emotionally taxing but at times more time intensive and the work waxes and wanes which can be frustrating for a nurse who is used to being busy all the time and ending at shift end. IT is not a clean desk job - there is always more to do and no one takes over when you leave for the day.

I've done both, love both, but they're very different jobs. Both rewarding in their own way.
