There are different ways to get involved in sports medicine.

A bachelors degree (4 years) in physiotherapy or human kinesiology or nursing would be a helpful degree before medical school.. Courses offered through St. John's ambulance as a n emergency first aid responder are important as well to take before med school.

Four years of medical school and then the options for residency after med school depend on your interests.

  1. 2 -3 years for a family medicine residency to become a family doctor and a one year fellowship in sports medicine. In residency get exposure to orthopedics- fixing fractures, surgery, and seeing how to treat injuries in kids and adults .

  2. 5 year physical medicine and rehab program which is more competitive to get into after medical school and involves dealing with other sets as patients like rehab for stroke patients.

  3. Orthopedics- very competitive to get in and all about fixing bones through surgery.

Option 1 seems like a good fit for you but lots of people change their mind during their medical degree and even residency which is the best as you should pursue a career that you enjoy. HOpe that helps!
