I understand the nerves, and do think you should listen to them. If you are a student and not a Registered Dietitian, I strongly encourage you to gain experience under other individuals before taking on any clients solo. Nutrition counseling requires a variety of skillsets and if not done properly can put your client at risk. I suggest researching different pathways to become certified in nutrition education first. Then find a company or individual who will provide guidance. This could come in the form of shadowing, mentorship, group sessions, pre-made educational materials, etc. Over time you will begin to build your skills and find your own style for working with clients. Once you reach a comfort level with that, then you might finally be ready to branch out on your own.

I am a chiropractor. Seeing how deficient my patients were, I needed to get a lot more familiar with nutrition than I was. I found a company, Biotics NW. At the time they had a 12-month class (one weekend a month) that went through it all and helped ways for me to assess patients. I haven't needed them in some time, But I believe they must have these classes on CDs or online somewhere. You might try to find another interested person who you can study with and practice different testing. It has helped me tremendously and I at one point taught a course in nutrition that was well attended by medical doctors as they introduction to nutrition was a 3-hour course usually an elective once in their entire medical school curriculum

Hi Rachel!
When I was beginning to provide nutrition assessment to my patients, talking to other professionals was what helped me the most.
Don't be afraid to ask for help from those who are already in the work field.
Depending on the college, some subjects are studied deeper than others, and is common to be insecure when you start to conduct your consults. A mentorship or study groups can be really great too! :)
I hope it's helpful! Best luck

Why not pick a few topics that you know well (related to nutrition) and then make some YouTube videos. You can use the videos as evidence of your knowledge.
