To become a certified teacher in most states, you'll need to graduate from high school and earn a Bachelor of Education degree in college. Many states also require passing a competency test, usually in reading and math. As mentioned in the previous comment, there are many volunteer opportunities where you can gain experience in classrooms. Volunteering might help you determine the grade level and content area you like the most. For example, do you want to work with very young children, ages 3–5-year-olds in early childhood? Or maybe you'd prefer being a content area high school teacher, like math, science or social studies. There is a tremendous need for special education teachers at all grade levels, K-12. I was able to be dual certified in special education and elementary school and I taught different levels throughout my career.

Hi Faith,
You can research schools that have great teaching programs and filter the ones you are interested in. Make a list of the things important to you in determining the right school and right program and then look up their requirements. Make sure your qualifications align with what they are looking for and make yourself the obvious choice when the time comes to be accepted into their program.
When it's time for you to get an internship/Co-op in high school, maybe you could find a school that would allow you to volunteer or assist in a classroom of kids the target age you'd want to teach when you become a teacher. Some colleges also have early childhood classrooms on their campus if you are interested in that age group.
Good Luck!
