Jordan,
I grew up on a dairy farm and we all learned how to fix everything that we had the tools for and could. After leaving the farm I ended up getting interested in and became an electrician and most companies I worked for did plumbing and HVAC as well. I decided to get cross trained to be a more valuable employee. The knowledge I learned from all of it has worked out very well for me in my lifetime of careers.
There is and will always be a need for plumbers; if you put the effort into it, you can be very successful and have your own business.
Everyone will be glad to see you since you will be resolving their problems and/or needs.
I suggest you find a local business that does plumbing work and talk to them about your ambitions and ask if they have and/or support an apprentice program. It will be helpful if you talk to anyone you know that has good knowledge about plumbing to understand the basics of it.
You have to be willing to get dirty, including very dirty at times. Plumbing is not always as clean and pretty as the business commercials you see about it online or on TV.
Like everything in life, to be successful at it, you will get out of it what you put into it. The more successful you are at it, the more money you will make and that is what inspires me to go to work every day.
