most people for traditional graphic design take classes in a community college (2 years) or at a university ( 4 years) or at some specialty trade schools such as School of Visual Concepts or the Art Institute. Some people just learn the software they need and start creating work without any classes. A more formal education is helpful since you will have more guidance and you will have a community of peers around you.
Best of luck, enjoy your creativity!

Hey De'Jon,
Going to school is usually the option. Having an associate can get you started for working in design work, with bachelor, your chances are higher. That being said, if you want to create video game design, it's different from graphic design but still a creative job.
You can actually learn how to make games. There are three game engine software you can try.
Unity 3D
Unreal
GameMaker
They are free to use and you can create your first game on these. I used Unity 3D to create my first game, coded in C#. Unity is a great beginner game engine if you don't know how to use the program and write in C#.
