What are the daily routines of a veterinarian?

I want to know if there are any difficulties or struggles that veterinarians faced or that they've overcome in the process of becoming a veterinarian. I want to be sure that I know exactly what kind of journey I'm embarking on and be sure I'm ready.

When I thought I wanted to be a vet, I did an internship at a small animal vet clinic. I felt like I spent most of my day giving vaccinations; taking x-rays; looking at excrement under the microscope, sitting in on surgeries, and sitting with crying owners as their pets were being euthanized. I was actually bored by it and found it a little depressing, and ended up becoming a zookeeper instead.

Of course it depends on what type of vet you are. For example a large animal vet or a zoo vet might be less monotonous and less exposure to euthanizing animals, which really got to me.
