What is a suggestion for online collages for psychology? Is it more easy or hard? Anything I should know before considering online?

I would like to get my masters in psychology, professional counseling or whatever I can get. I am currently applying to scholarships to help but won none so far. I was wondering if online is better then in person collage counseling or if they have different benefits and what are they. Thank you so much!

I would highly recommend that you attend your psychology program in person if at all possible. Whether you are interested in doing counseling or research in the field having that in person experience gives you a much better educational experience. It is much more motivating being in a program where you have direct human contact and have the opportunities to make close connections with both professors as well as classmates. When you are being trained in counseling, it is important to focus on both verbal and non-verbal cues in reading people. This is much more difficult online. I am an educational psychologist that does research in the field and was trained in person. I feel my experience was much richer and in depth than someone who was trained online.

So for this, I can say , personally I don't have this degree. However, I did complete paramedic school online. Pros....you do everything at home so you can maintain a job easier than if you had to physically go sit in class. Cons....I'm not a teacher so I don't do well teaching myself, I prefer to hear an explanation rather than read and know what it means ...I'm a hands-on learner. I can say there is a bit of a in your head kind of thing that happened with me, meaning, I didn't think I could do it but in the end if you want it you'll out your heart into and you'll come out on. It really is a new transition that I think will be great. And hey you're young , you're a lot more sharp than I am lol. Think it over right down your pros and cons.

Jill recommends the following next steps:

Make a list of what you like of each
Don't make a rush decision
BREATHE!

One of the best schools to study psychology that has an online program is The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. It is a diverse private non-profit university with it's main campus in Chicago, IL. It has been around since 1979 and more recently started offering online programs. They have been accredited by the American Psychological Association since 2018. There are also other campuses at various locations across the U.S., with one of the major ones being in Los Angeles. They offer a wide range of programs focused on the application of psychology, as well as specializations for those that want to go into the areas of healthcare or education. There are over 30 majors. I will say that the school is hard to get into with their acceptance rate being about 24% of those that apply. To be admitted into a Masters level program you must have a 3.0 GPA. To be admitted into a Doctoral program you must have at least a 3.2 GPA. The tuition is around $12,500 per year. The average salary for graduates is around $53,000 yearly.

I have included links to their website & social media pages below for your review.

I got my bachelor in psychology, but not in the US. After graduating, it was hard to apply what I know into the real world. To me, the experience you can get in this regard weights more. Try to get some kind of experiment on this field while studying if you can or at least observing - you may not be allowed to work directly with patients . You can study on your own by online programs like others suggesting, and observing in a real word. By graduation, you see how comfortable you are start working.
Good luck all.

I completed my school counseling masters degree online at Capella University. While all of my classes were online, we did use zoom and had two annual in person colloquium where we worked intensively in small groups on our interpersonal skills. I would recommend their program.

Catrina’s Answer

It's certainly possible to receive quality training in an online program or lower quality in an in-person program. My suggestion would be to look at accreditation. The purpose of accreditation is to ensure that institution/programs provide education/training that meets acceptable levels of quality. The Database of Postsecondary Institutions and Programs that is provided by the U.S. Department of Education may be accessed at https://ope.ed.gov/dapip/#/home
