I would suggest doing internships which will help you build technical skills that you can utilize to get a job sooner. There are two aspects to finding a job as a CS major that’s trying to get into a technical field like software engineering. First you need to prepare for interviews by studying ds and algorithms. Second you have to build your resume and practical skill sets and also work on a ton of projects. Imagine you’re interviewing for a company and then ask you “tell about challenges you’ve faced with some projects?” How will you answer that if you have not worked on projects? This is where doing an internship will help you.

The more internships and experience the better.
Also, befriend some professors in class because they may have some summer opportunities available to build experience with.

You're not *required* (especially in computer science where there's a lot of demand), though it's certainly helpful. Depending on the specific employer you have in mind it might be almost required (if not an internship, comparable experience like a lot of coding as a research assistant).
