UMBC's acceptance rate is 69%. Maryland has the eighth-lowest acceptance rate. If you match the criteria, you have a good chance of getting accepted to UMBC, which has a fairly demanding admissions process. Out of 11,459 candidates, 7,962 were accepted the previous year.
The institution has extremely high SAT and ACT admission standards, typically admitting students with scores in the top 30% (SAT 1150/1350 ACT 24/30). The University of Maryland Baltimore County normally accepts and draws individuals with an “A-” average GPA and an average high school grade point average of 3.9. Most first-year students graduate in the top half of their class. The school accepted 21% of those who applied.

Hi Elias,
When considering admission to competitive universities such as UMBC, there are some things you can do to set yourself apart from the crowd. Aside from GPA, SAT/ACT scores, what leadership roles have you held or plan to hold while in high school? Additionally, writing a stellar essay can win the hearts of the admission staff. These are the individuals who will make a case for you, if there are some areas in which you are shy of the requirements. You may wish to find someone in the education industry who can review your essay and give you pointers. Be yourself, but also be willing to put in the effort. Hope this helps.

In addition to the information given, if you are able to do so, you may want to arrange a campus tour. A tour will allow you to get a feel for the environment and meet current students. It is not just about getting into the college. Part of the process is examining whether the college/university fits you. Do you see yourself spending 4 years with the university? If yes, what activities are of interest to you? What majors are of interest? If no, what does the school not have that you would like to see?
Yes, it is great to be admitted into the school of your dreams; however, if the dream school does not fit you, your college experience on several levels (i.e., academic, social) may not be what you expected. Also, remember that there is an adjustment period when you enter college.
