Hi William,

First I think it is amazing you are interested in computer science and math! I majored in computer science and minored in math at Hampton University. Speaking from experience there are endless jobs in these fields. Deciding which direction to go is entirely up to you and what you are interested in. Computer science and math compliment each other very well so when picking a job you don't always have to choose one or the other.

A few specific jobs include being a software engineer (what I do for Google), consultant, teacher, researcher, analyst, and many more. Believe me the list goes on forever. If you are looking for more opportunities definitely do some research online but remember you don't have to decide exactly what you want to do before you start school.

Good luck!

Computer Science and Math are both super important to fields like Machine Learning and AI! A lot of applications of Machine learning require skills rooted in Linear Algebra, so those are great fields to go into if you like Math and Programming! You can work in AI research for example, or developing Machine Learning and AI tools for different companies, so I highly recommend looking into that. Other things include cryptography, and discrete math, which might lean more on the research side of things, so I would look into those topics as well. Hope this helps!

You might want to check out the website BeAnActuary (http://beanactuary.org) beanactuary. An actuary is a business professional who evaluates risk, often in an insurance company. There continue to be more nontraditional opportunities for actuaries because risk is so much a part of modern life. As a computer person you can explore ways to use Big Data to answer questions.

If you like what you see on the webside you should know that you need to be a self starter as an actuary, so you can pass the exams required to get the credentials while you are also working in a business environment. But you don't have to go to school beyond an undergraduate degree to get these credentials.
