I'm not sure I fully understand your question. But, if you're planning to purchase wholesale products and sell them retail, you'll need a Resellers Permit for your state. A Resellers Permit allows you to purchase items from wholesalers without paying sales tax on your initial purchase. You will later pay the sales tax by charging sales tax to your customers. You can write-off unsold inventory as a business expense when you do your taxes.
If you're looking for popular items to sell here are a couple of articles on how to go about finding them.

Some marketplaces where you can purchase wholesale items are:
Alibaba.com
AliExpress.com

Quite simply, it is all about supply and demand. Buy low/Sell high strategy, but remember, the more inventory you store - the greater the cost.
If you can identify a 3rd party that can procure, package and ship for you...it will cost you to setup and they are to be compensated for their part, but it will also allow you to achieve greater scale and volume to drive bottom-line profitability and adjust margins accordingly. Siddarth's advice is a good one. High traffic, high visilibility, high demand products rather than seasonal.

The key aspect of being a wholesale/retail buyer is 2 things which is what products/items are you heading towards being a buyer of and who are your retailers to sell your products as well. If you are an intermediate buyer of high velocity products then great but I would recommend picking such items which are always in high demand are not seasonal.
