Joe’s Answer

Consider first that a psychiatrist is a medical doctor and you will need to go through medical school (4 years of college, 4 years of medical school) before you can study to be a psychiatrist.....not an easy path. Then typically you could take another four years before you actually complete all your additional training to become a psychiatrist...it's one of the longest medical careers there is. So I would say the length of time spent in school is one of the stuggles..so consider you will have spent 24 years in school pretty much full time by the time you graduate (grade school, middle school, high school, college, medical school, residency).

However, once you do make it thorugh...the median income in the US is $220K ...which is about 5X the median income in general....so money wise it's a good investment if you like being a doctor and helping people with mental disorders.

Good luck
