Good job on being motivated when I was your age I wasn’t even thinking about what would look good on an application. Some of the big things they are going to look at are grades so ensuring those are good will be a big plus. Other things activities like leadership in things you are passionate about are extremely important. People can put thousands of things on an application, but if they can’t talk about them or explain why they even did them in the first place they will count for nothing. Find something you really love and volunteer in it. I liked spending time with animals and I volunteered at a Humane society and I had a great time with it. Find what you are passionate about and put some energy into it.

Obviously good grades are a must. If you have an idea what field you want to go in, taking extra classes in that area is also a good idea. For example, if you want to be a doctor, take science classes - chemistry and biology. Take AP classes if you can. If you want to be an engineer, take math, up to AP Calc, if you can.

Get involved in extra curricular activities. Run for an office in a club you participate in. You want to show leadership ability.

Speak with your high school college counselor. They are a fantastic resource who can give you excellent advice.

You are right, planning for your future starts today and you want to do it as early as possible. You have to look for opportunities to make yourself stand out from your peers. Such as participating in clubs and extracurricular activities in school as well as outside of school. Even better if they are in the area that you would like to study in college. Volunteerism is a great way to give back to your community as well as bolster your college applications. Nothing compares to the real world experiences you have to take with you to college. Your grades are key as well, taking classes that prepare you for college and staying in good academic standing while managing all of the things I mentioned earlier shows that you are ready to handle the responsibility of college.

Best wishes and know you got this!

I would say to definitely keep your grades up. Join groups, clubs, committees, get a job, or play sports. Show college admissions you can work as a team. Do community service. They like all of that. I hope this helps a little. Good luck! You got this!

That's great that you're already thinking ahead to your junior year of high school! Here are some things you can do to have a strong transcript and university application: Take challenging courses: Universities look for students who have taken rigorous courses in high school. Consider enrolling in honors or Advanced Placement (AP) classes in subjects that interest you and in which you excel. Maintain good grades: Your grades are one of the most important factors that universities consider in their admissions decisions. Aim to maintain a strong GPA by studying hard, staying organized, and seeking help when you need it. Get involved in extracurricular activities: Universities look for students who are well-rounded and who have pursued their interests outside of the classroom. Join clubs, volunteer in your community, participate in sports, or pursue other activities that interest you. Strong letters of recommendation can be a valuable asset in your university application. Get to know your teachers, participate in class discussions, and ask for help when you need it. Prepare for standardized tests: Standardized tests like the SAT or ACT are an important part of many university applications. Consider taking a test preparation course or studying on your own to improve your scores. Research universities and their admission requirements: Start researching universities early and find out what their admission requirements are. Consider attending college fairs, visiting campuses, and talking to college admissions counselors to get more information.
