Isaiah - Yes, electrical engineering is a good job and does pay well, but you should not use this as a criteria for a career. There are many engineering jobs from Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, Aeronautical, Computer Science, just to name a few more. Electrical deals with a lot of different areas, and you need to research to first see if you are interested in an Engineering career, and then which one. Getting and Engineering degree is not easy, but if you are in the right engineering field, it will be very rewarding. My advice is start with researching the areas you are interested in, and then make a plan to obtain your goals.

Robert’s Answer
Yes, it’s a great field and pays well. I love the variety of different things you can do over a lifetime. I started as a dishwasher and a drummer in a rock band. Then I got my EE degree and went on to work on: laser systems, US Army tanks, fire department equipment, automated factory instruments, 2-way radios, electron microscopes, medical devices, thermal imagers, and software integration processes. You’ll need to study and work hard, but you can always change your specialty. Do what makes you happiest!

Scott’s Answer
Yes, electrical engineering can be a very rewarding career path and has many subdisciplines that you could focus on including electronics, micro-electronics, communications, radio frequency (RF), microwave devices, optics, fiber-optics, lasers, and a whole lot more. As with most engineering fields, you will need to put in the study time to succeed. The course work usually incorporates a lot of high level math. I my case, I would have only needed 3 more math course during my undergraduate studies to receive a second major in math. The most important thing in any career path is to find something you are interested in and then go for it!
