What kinds of research can I do as a psych major?
I plan to go into psychology, but I know that in order to get a job after college I'll need experience, so what kinds of research or experience can I get as a psych major?

Undergraduates typically assist faculty at the university where they are enrolled in the faculty member's research studies. So, it all depends on the size of the undergraduate university that you attend AND the interests of those faculty members.
You can also probably do Independent Studies with a faculty member during your 4th semester or later, so long as you have some coursework in statistics and research design.
What I recommend is that you go to individual psychology department websites at schools where you are thinking about attending and then to the webpages of the individual faculty members to find out the type of research each one is engaged in.
There are over 50 sub-disciplines within the psychology discipline. To articulate the types of research that you might engage in would required several pages of narrative on my part. While I am hardly lazy, I think it is better that you do the exploring on your own...that will provide you with the background information that you need to learn more about the discipline of psychology. I also recommend the webpage of the American Psychological Association. www.apa.org. Go to the "Divisions" link and explore what each Division is about. That will give you the necessary background. FYI: Only about 1/3 of psychologists are therapists!!
