Good Yearly Income or Good Salary for stable and happy income, depends on the city and region within the state, as well as your lifestyle and family size etc. Happiness is subjective and living comfortably can very person to person.

Living wage salary for Single adult is roughly 50K per year, for comfortable living 65-75 K per single adult.
Family of two needs 90-100 K for comfortable living and Family of 4 needs 130-150K per year.

If both adults in the family works, then one can have better lifestyle or can save some money for future.

Another way to come up with Income needed per year is to come up with cost per month for the following items and add them up .

Housing $1200 -$2800
Food & Entertainment $750 -1750
Car Payment and Insurance $500-1000
Health Insurance $200-400
Utilities $250-400
Vacation and other expenses $250-750

$3150-7100 per month before taxes, if you account for 20-25% taxes ,you are looking at $4000-8750 per month gross income.

Hope this helps or at least give some idea on how to estimate good annual income for a given city in CA.
