Hi Emmie,
College graduates with an Environmental Science Degree usually pursue a career path that focuses on preventing environmental pollution, preserving natural resources or assisting communities that have been affected by pollution. Industries can range from Engineering, Environment Science, Government, Construction, Public Health and Education. Federal Government entities can include the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Park Service or the U.S. Geological Survey.
Here are some Top Careers with an Environmental Science Degree:
- Wildlife Biologist
- Environment Scientist
- Environmental Educator
- Meteorologist
- Environmental Health and Safety Officer
- Ecologist
- Environmental Engineer
While in high school, one will need to focus on science and math classes to prepare for a career in Environmental Science. Physics, chemistry and biology will be the core science courses. For math, statistics and calculus will be needed. Both concentrations will enable you to focus and refine your analytical skills; complex problem solving; investigative and innovative critical thinking; attention to detail and observation skills; etc.
Other skills that will need to be built upon center around team building, team work and communication. In any work culture, collaboration amongst team members, partner departments and clients occur on a daily basis. A college course in public speaking, communications and English will help with one's communication and writing skills since analysis reports are generated on the environment and findings are presented to colleagues and other professionals who deal with Environmental Science.

Many progressive states are addressing climate change, water preservation and maintaining ecology to make our lives better.
States as well as private consultants assist these states in preserving environment.
Climate change is for real and environmental science is a key to preserve the environment and improve lives of those who are facing these challenges of water shortage, floods, etc.

Many companies need an ES major. They need to do reports on how their business affects the environment. It’s mostly a research position. Almost every company that manufactures something will need an ES major. Hershey’s for example has a position for an ES to study the amount of plastics they release into the environment, you’ll likely send reports to update the company and make sure that you’re at or under the government limits.
