In San Francisco, there aren't any great cooking schools. The ideal approach is to work in a kitchen, find out if you enjoy it and can manage it, and begin that way. Some excellent schools are on the east coast, like CIA, Johnson and Wales, and the French Culinary Institute. However, hands-on experience is crucial for truly mastering cooking.
