Hi Elizabeth,
For making a professional resume, I give you the following tips:
- Organize your resume in sections like contact information, studies, work experiences, interests and other
- Have a look at templates or resumes in the industry to catch the words and phrases used
- Take a look at tools that help to design resumes like Canva (https://www.canva.com/resumes/templates/). This is free to use.
I hope this help!
Cheers!

If you have access to Word of Google docs, you can also make a good resume in there. I do not recommend using their premade templates, though, as they aren’t always reflective of how employers like resumes to be formatted and they can be hard to customize and edit. My go-to suggestion to learn more about resume writing is to Google college or university career centers. Most colleges /universities have a career center, and most of those career centers have free resources on their websites that include resume writing guides and sample resumes. If you know what career field you’re interested, you could add that to your search. A lot of these resources are geared toward people who don’t have a lot (or sometimes any) professional experience, so it’s a useful place to start.

Hi Elisabeth,
as mentioned by other members, there are different websites like e.g. canva.com that have free templates that you can use to make the layout of your CV look professional. What is considered professional depends highly on the field you want to enter. For example, a CV for a Social Media Manager role in a start up can be more colorful and creative than a CV for an accountant in a traditional company.
For a professional CV you should include the following:
Highlight your relevant work experience: Start with your most recent work experience and list your work experience in reverse chronological order. For each job, include your job title, company name, dates of employment, and a list of your responsibilities and accomplishments. Remember to use action verbs when describing your experience.
Showcase your skills: Make sure to highlight your skills relevant to the job you are applying for. This could include technical skills, communication skills, or management skills.
Education: List your educational qualifications, including the name of the institution, the degree or qualification
Include your achievements: Highlight any notable achievements or awards that you have received. This could be professional, academic or personal.
Use bullet points and keep it concise: Use bullet points to break up the text and make it easier to read. Keep it concise and limit your CV to two pages.
Proofread and edit: Make sure to proofread and edit your CV thoroughly. It is important to have a polished, error-free document.
Remember, a professional CV is tailored to the job you are applying for. Make sure to read the job description carefully and highlight your relevant skills and experience. Good luck!

As previously mentioned, looking at samples online that have been created in the last few years and enlisting the help of a college career center are great suggestions. Many career centers offer resume assistance as a gift to the community, even if you aren’t an enrolled student.
Some non-profits, state agencies, and religious organizations also offer free employment assistance, including resume writing classes and tips. An example includes: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/life/online-employment-workshops?lang=eng
At the same time, you may want to review the free resources available at the National Resume Writers’ Association website: https://thenrwa.org/e-book.
Best of luck to you!

When you are first starting out your resume will be limited. So, feel free to add your GPA, clubs and any honors. You can list any positive feedback under your previous employment (even if it is a part time job). Here is a sample resume (you can take what you like from it). https://rocket-resume.com/resume-builder?utm_id=530046739&msclkid=ec559df46b2e155668eaf9b16db820c5
Under skills, list what you feel is relevant. For example, you can list out Microsoft tools like Word, Excel, etc. Or any other relevant skill. Good luck!

There are a few things you can do to make your resume look more professional - Choose a clean, easy-to-read font such as Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman. Avoid using decorative fonts or fonts that are difficult to read. Bullet points help break up large chunks of text and make your resume easier to read. Use them to highlight your accomplishments and skills. Use consistent formatting throughout your resume, including headings, spacing, and margins. Make sure your contact information is easy to find and clearly labeled. Use professional language and avoid slang or casual language. Use action verbs to describe your accomplishments and skills. Customize your resume for each job you apply for. Highlight the skills and experiences that are most relevant to the job. Keep your resume to one or two pages and only include relevant information. Use concise language and avoid using filler words or phrases. Have someone else review your resume for grammar and formatting errors. You can also get feedback on the content and overall presentation.By following these tips, you can make your resume look more professional and increase your chances of landing the job you want. Good luck!
