I don't know from experience, but I've witnessed many interior designers on social media partner together to increase their followers by doing giveaways together, etc. and then you have to follow all of the content creators/designers to be entered to win. I've seen where designers will become friends with other designers by DM'ing them, doing meet-ups, etc., sharing each others' content on their pages, etc. and it reaches more people that way. I think designers use it to show off their work and sometimes their process and then followers like their content and reach out to them for services. They will also do virtual consultations and talk about those through their social media platforms. Some really successful designers will do Master Classes to advise folks on their homes and designs. They will also speak to new designers on how to break into the business.

Social media can definitely help you get your name and work out to the public. I used Instagram as a way to promote my pet portrait business with success without paying for ads. If you decide to go that route, these are the things I would suggest you try.

1. Get good photography of your interior design work for posting. I can't stress this enough.
2. Make sure you tag posts so people that aren't already following you can find you.
3. Follow other designers and see how they are promoting themselves. Reach out and see if any of them would be willing to mentor you.
4. Get into a regular cadence of posting so your followers are constantly getting new content. When I was starting out I posted daily. If you don't have a lot of work to promote yet, remember you don't have to always post your own work - you can share work of other people that you like! As an interior designer you might post paint palettes you like, a piece of furniture that would tie a room together, a cool rug. Just make sure you give the other designer credit for the content.
5. Ask friends and family to follow, like and share!
