Working in the welding field is rewarding and it is a skill not every person can do. As a structural welder and pipe welder I can tell you that the days are long and hard. I’ve worked days where I was welding for 14 hours straight in the elements. Did I hate it? No, because I loved the trade. Was I tired? I was exhausted. If you are well trained and certified, your career as a welder can take off! I’ve seen welders take home 200k a year easily. That’s in the right field of welding though. AWS American welding society has great information for those who are young and want to get into the field. Welding is a skill and an art form. I hope I was able to help.

That can depend on the company you work for. You can expect to work at least a 40 hr week. My job has a 50hr work week, but anything over 40hrs is time and a half and anything over 50hrs is double time. This is just how the company I work for does overtime. The time of the year it is. A lot ofcompanies have times of the year that is considered their busy season or have deadlines to finish a product so you may be ask to work overtime voluntarily or it may be mandatory to work overtime if they can't get enough volunteers or having trouble meeting or keeping up with the demand.

The number of hrs. worked will totally depend of the field of welding you go into and where you get hired on at. I've been in the welding field for 25 yrs, and have only worked a handful of 40hr weeks.
Since the welding trades are typically understaffed, overtime is fairly common, with the "Shop Based" welders working closer to 45-55hrs a week, with the field welders working well over that.

A normal work week is usually scheduled at 40 hours. Either 5- 8 hour days. Or if you're lucky, 4- 10 hr days. Depending on where you're working, overtime is anything after 40. Or a union, overtime is after 8 hrs. -So, the more time you put in, the more money you will make, the better you will be in your craft.
