Good Morning, Nathan. One really great way to see the differences between agencies is to go for a "Ride a Long" or Citizen's Observer ride if you are over eighteen. If younger, check those jurisdictions where you have an interest (Like the Mass. State Police) by either reviewing their website or calling about Cadet Programs (where you volunteer to work with other teens who are interested in law enforcement and the local Cadet Advisors, who are current law enforcement officers), meet and see if you fit in.
Next time you see one of the officers while you are out and about, introduce yourself and ask them about their department's opportunities.
Great way to meet some exceptional role models and make new friends.
