Hi-I only see 6 questions, so I hope this helps.
·

1.What profession did you choose? I started by getting a degree in Animal Science. I knew I wanted to work with animals, but I was not sure exactly what I wanted to do with animals. Then I did an internship with sharks, and fell in love with anything that had to do with the water. I continued on to get a masters degree in conservation biology focusing on marine ecosystems.

Why? I always had a love for animals. I grew up raising rabbits, rescuing every dog in the neighborhood and spending my summers at zoo camps.

2.How many years of college did you

need to go through? 4 years to get my undergraduate degree, and I took my time and took 3 years to finish my masters degree

3.What jobs did you work before you

landed your present professional

job? In college I worked a lot in on campus. I did a lot more volunteering to help wildlife rescue centers, and my local zoo and aquarium. I got lucky and landed a career in my field before I finished my masters degree.

4.How can I decide if I should earn a

Ph.D. in this field? If you are interested in field research, then it is pretty good idea. Ph.D will allow you to be the lead investigator on projects.

5.Were you in a college program? I went straight from high school to college. I had a scholarship, so it made my transition easy.

6.Did you have to pivot and go back to

school at a later date? I went right from my undergraduate degree to my masters degree. I really like learning, so I had no problem staying in school.

Melody’s Answer

Glad to help Reyna. I hope for much success in your interview project.

1.What profession did you choose? Initially chose Genetic Biology but through life/work experiences; I am now a teacher.

Why? Given my firm desire to learn myself, I am drawn to helping others learn while I continue to be a lifelong learner.

2.How many years of college did you need to go through? Basic degree 4.5, then additional 1.5 years of teaching requirements

3.What jobs did you work before you landed your present professional job? Customer service rep in medium construction supply company, accounting (receivable, returns) same company, claims in insurance, educational support and finally teacher

4.How can I decide if I should earn a Ph.D. in this field? My story: At present, not looking to return to class for an advanced degree. I have focused on improving skills, not building more knowledge base. Although, in order to improve skills, there is some knowledge building as well. My advice: Answer why you feel a Ph.D. would set you more in the place you want to work in your field. Ph. D.s are usually sought to gain tenure in academic jobs, appear as an expert testifier or authority in an area and write in professional journals /magazines/articles to name a few reasons for a doctorate pursuit.

5.Were you in a college program? Yes. I have actually been in three different college programs.

6.Did you have to pivot and go back to school at a later date? Yes, so far I have gone back to school twice. Once, I did not complete it, lost interest in pursuing that study course. Second time - become a teacher, finished study course.
