Abhishek’s Answer

I might sound primitive but read textbooks and research papers. If you don't know about your syllabus's textbook or textbooks of your field than contact with your senior or people around you, do some research on google .
In the time of google and artificial intelligence where information is available by just a click, but the purity of first hand information from the books and research papers is irreplaceable.
Build a habit of reading regularly, do regular workout, take a healthy diet and enjoy your college life.
Hope it helps.

ATTEND ORIENTATION(S) — Colleges and universities host several orientation events that provide tours of campuses and help answer any questions you might have about everything from where to find quiet places to study, where to buy food or get your student ID to extracurricular activities and where certain buildings are located.

ACADEMIC ADVISOR — Meet with an academic advisor who can help you plan ahead to make sure you’re taking the right courses that are appropriate for your major and you setup a plan to help you develop an academic path that is right for you.

STAY ORGANIZED — In college it’s important to keep track of your assignments, daily schedule, and deadlines. The planning system you used in high school, whether it was an app or a notebook might work just fine in college, but you might want to consider a different or more robust organizing system or tool. For example, you might need something that helps you set reminders or manage deadlines, or a different note-taking app. Staying on top of your schoolwork and other activities will make for a less stressful first year and help you to enjoy it.

GO TO CLASS — This might seem like an odd tip for a first-year college student, but be a good student and go to class. In college, there is freedom because professors don’t always take attendance, but don’t make the mistake of missing classes – especially your first year. In my experience, going to class and participating will help you achieve great grades. After all, how are you going to know anything about the subject matter if you haven’t heard the professor lecture on it? Start college off right and be a good student.

HAVE FUN — Most importantly, remember to have fun amidst all the busyness of the semester. Make sure you leave time to hang out with your friends, go to an event or activity and simply relax. These four years will go by fast – be sure to enjoy it.

Hope this was helpful Julio

Don’s Answer

1. Eat Breakfast:
You can not learn when your stomach is empty.

2. Be on time:
Try to be 10 minutes early to prepare yourself and necessary items for the class to give yourself the best opportunity to learn.

3. Master the class syllabus:
Some classes are graded heavily on attendance, others quizzes and homework.

4. Learn to Learn:
One thing that you will hopefully take away from college and master is how to learn. The ability to master this class is up to you. It is a skill easily overlooked, that many think can be taught, but it is truly self taught and up to each individual.

If you can Master this one skill on your own, the sky is the limit!

Best,

Don

Hello there! I understand that the first day of classes might seem a little daunting, but don't worry, you've got this! To help ease those nerves, try arriving early on campus - not only will this give you some extra time to find your classes, but it will also allow you to have a more relaxed start to the day.

Before your first day, make sure to review your class schedule and syllabi. Knowing what to expect will help you feel more prepared and confident. Also, take some time to familiarize yourself with important locations on campus, like the library, student center, and any other buildings where you will have classes.

Don't forget to come prepared with everything you need to take notes effectively and efficiently, whether that's a notebook and pen or a trusty laptop. Being ready to absorb all of the valuable information from day one will set you up for success!

Most importantly, bring your enthusiasm and an open mind, ready to focus and pay attention in class. Remember that everyone is adjusting to the new environment, so be patient with yourself and your peers.

Lastly, be open to making new connections and forming new friendships. Embrace the opportunity to meet diverse and interesting people – who knows, some of them might become lifelong friends! Keep your chin up, and remember, you've got this! Wishing you the best on your first day and beyond!

Riya’s Answer

Create your own timetable! If you're not an early bird, avoid scheduling classes too early. Explore exciting extracurricular activities and make new friends! Remember, most people are probably nervous too, which makes it easier to connect with others during this time.

Thank you for your question. Many students may have similar question.
Below are my suggestions:
1. Join the orientation program organised by the college, student union or faculty, etc. This can help you familiarise the college
2. Do some school tour to find the places you may visit often, eg lecture rooms, faculty office, library, etc.
3. If you will stay in dorm, move in early. Start engagement with other senior students
4. Review the first year syllabus and prepare
5. Explores any recreational clubs you would like to join
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Hi Julio,

Here are some tips to help navigate through your first days of college:

1. Do a trial run. A day or two before your first class, stroll around campus to acquaint yourself with the surroundings. This includes locating all your classrooms, so you'll feel confident and prepared on day one.
2. Attend new student welcome events. These gatherings are great for meeting new friends who, like you, are just starting their college journey. You're all in the same boat, so make the most of it!
3. Arrive early to class. Being 10-15 minutes early allows you to settle in, introduce yourself to the professor, and even get your preferred seat!
4. Choose a front-row seat. Demonstrating enthusiasm and engagement by sitting near the front can benefit you later on if you need assistance from your professor, and it may even unlock new opportunities.
5. Study your syllabus! If you receive the syllabus before the first day of class, review it to understand the expectations, schedule, and required materials. Be proactive and purchase these items quickly, as many other students will be rushing to the bookstore after their first class to grab the same materials/books.

Jordan’s Answer

Hello there,

First off, awesome question! You're already showing initiative on being successful with your collegiate career.

I believe first and foremost, organization is key. I found keeping a planner and writing down all class due dates/exam schedules really helpful when managing my time. Most colleges offer a free planner from the on campus textbook store.

Second, read your syllabus and understand the expectations. It'll help you understand when you should start certain projects, help you allocate resources to do well in the class.

Third, remember life is all about connections. SO NETWORK! Join extracurricular activities, form study groups for courses, and overall remember to enjoy the experience!
