Fantastic question to help you accomplish your academic goals! If you have the time, there are numerous clubs available in your school or local community for you to participate in.

I suggest joining any club or organization that excites you and becoming part of the executive board. This deeper involvement will allow you to develop leadership abilities that can truly shine in your college applications. This could be any pastime, such as chess, dance, sports, robotics, writing, and so on.

Additionally, I'd recommend joining clubs that enable you to hone essential skills like public speaking, volunteering/mentoring, professional growth, or anything related to a potential career field you'd like to explore further.

Remember to keep track of your extracurricular activities! Update your resume and foster connections with individuals who can provide you with letters of recommendation for joining organizations and applying to college. All of this will greatly benefit you in the long run.

Dania recommends the following next steps:

Look up clubs and orgs available at your school and local community. Join one that you are passionate about and another to help with professional development
Join the e-board
Keep a record of your involvement and accomplishments. Use this to update your resume
If you can't find an activity over the summer, look for a job!

Have a start in the summer and find volunteer opportunities that will cover your community hours. Keep an eye out on available openings locally that may relate to your courses of interest and apply. Also choose clubs that will have a positive impact to a larger target group which is something that you can highlight in your college applications, like media clubs, environmental clubs, social issues clubs. Other choices could be clubs that will help you in honing your leadership, time management skills

Susan’s Answer

Hello there!
Your nearby high school is filled with numerous possibilities. Enhance your leadership and communication abilities by participating in the student council, and think about pursuing an officer role (for example, class president, treasurer, etc.). Explore the various clubs your high school offers, such as debate, speech drama, and math club, as they can greatly contribute to boosting your confidence. Now is the perfect time to cultivate those essential "soft skills" that will play a significant role in your life and future career.

Becoming at ease with working in groups, taking on leadership roles, and speaking in public are all abilities that will distinguish you from the rest.

It is not too early to begin to work on your Community Service hours. Get a list of opportunities from your school and see what is available. The summer would be a perfect time to start that process. Any clubs that require you to do public speaking are good investments for the future. No matter what career you decide on, if you are comfortable speaking in front of a group, whether it is one person or a room full of people, it will be beneficial. You never know when you will be called upon to present an idea or read a paper. Try to get involved in groups that might prepare you for what you want to do later in life. It depends on what your school offers.

Join any clubs that interest you! This can include Drama Club, Stage Crew, a foreign language club, or a sports team. If you're interested in something that your school doesn't offer, you can even start your own club. Don't be afraid to try something new or different - now is the best time to learn something new. I had the most memorable experiences when I participated in clubs/activities outside of my comfort zone. Colleges won't focus so much on the type of club you joined, but rather that you were involved in different extra-curricular activities, so do something that you'll enjoy!

Some clubs to consider in high school include student council, any peer mentoring or community service clubs. Outside of school your local Boys & Girls Club could be a wonderful engagement opportunity. ~ Best

Art related clubs like cartooning, painting, or sculpting are great ways to unwind and learn a new skill/hobby. Its the kind of skill that will stick with you for the rest of your life and keep you busy in your down time.

Cooking is also a great club or hobby to start that will yield a lifetime of benefits for you. Being able to rely on yourself to cook a meal will be very valuable.

A. Michelle’s Answer

You should join the clubs and activities that interest you most and where you think you can make a significant contribution. Colleges receive applications from many students involved in clubs and extracurricular activities, so they look for students who have distinguished themselves through sustained involvement and/or leadership. The type of club or activity doesn’t matter as much as how your involvement has helped you grow and/or helped others.

Hi! this is a great question and very important as you begin your college search. Any club is a great place to start, but would encourage you to take on a leadership role within your club. For example, I was in a summer marching band and was a section leader and dedicated time to volunteering. These are great experiences to get you started on your professional journey! Not only can they help with college applications, but also once you start applying for internships or your first job post college.

TLDR; join a club that makes you happy and be a leader!

I would recommend putting your time and energy into clubs and extracurricular activities that truly interest you! If you’re really interested in a certain subject, join a club for that! If you like to do sports, art, dance, signed up for something that you’re interested in! The most important thing is showing that you’re willing to put extra time and energy into what you truly enjoy, while balancing a your school work!
