I would suggest making sure you live in a dorm that is mainly made up of other freshmen. Everyone will be in the same place as far as wanting to be social and meet as many people as possible in the dorm.
I made the mistake of choosing a dorm made of mostly sophomores and since all of them had established friend groups, people were not very outgoing within the dorm.
Try to meet as many people in your dorm as possible and look for opportunities to get involved. There will probably be groups or clubs for people of all kinds of interests.

Hi Ingrid - I recommend weighing the factors most important to you.. For example, is housing cost most important or being close to classes? Are you looking to meet your peers on campus or live in perhaps a nicer place off campus? Are you going to a school that has a high number of commuters or one in which most people live on campus? I went to the University of Florida for undergrad (not too far from you!) and had a fantastic experience living on campus. I met many many people, was close to classes, felt immersed in the campus experience and lived in an affordable dorm.
I hope this helps!
