Is there anyway to have hired work hands long term in construction?
My dad has been a finishing carpenter for many many years and has his own company. He has many connections and knows lots of people in the construction industry. When he gets big jobs he struggles to finish all by himself because the help hands he hires will come and go all the time. Max they stick around is two weeks.

I know the market is really hard right now. We are all in the same boat. Best way I think for him hire people is by having them intern with him especially when they are coming out of technical schools or even high schools. Also there are veterans that are always looking too. My boss had this issue and we decided that now is not the time to expand the company because for us to give the highest quality we have to be more selective. But if I were him. I would use LinkedIn or indeed or even the michigan talent bank. Amd he will probably need to raise his prices because good help won't stay if they aren't compensated well. Actually that was part of my decision to go back to freelance work instead of working directly for a company. I was able to set my own hours and prices. Not everyone can afford me but I have more than enough work. Hope this helps
Thank you, Danielle for the advice.

Danielle,
Exactly!
That is why I'm now for myself. Good help is hard to find. If you do find someone to stick around what usually happens after 2, 3 or 5 years (if your that lucky) nis they go onto their own. That is what a teacher does. They move on and in the trades that is the correct path. Unless they have no ambition to work for themselves and if no other company hires them away (do to benefits or pay) that is what happens. I have paid carpenters minimum, according to what they know and over paid and still have the same result. A hazard of the trades and being a teacher.
I hope this helps.

I can't tell you why when I can't ask more questions but ill try. People won't stick around if there is no future in it. So to retain employees he needs to target growth minded people and sell them a growth path. Be picky about who you hire and see ask them what it would take for them to work for him long term.
