How do you foster creativity?

How do you come up with creative and juicy ideas right off the bat? I am having a hard time researching ideas with AI and referencing other sites but some people just thought of it fast!!

I read a lot of materials from time to time but these people are just on another level of creativity and originality. I commend those people but sometimes I feel jealous.

Shane’s Answer

I foster creativity by writing down my ideas or thoughts on paper. I’ve tried to use my phone but for me, it takes away from my creative space. If I use paper, I can use pen or pencil to also draw or doodle which helps get my creative juices flowing as well.

If I wanted to be more creative then I would make sure I’m in proximity to people who lean to the creative side. I’m probably my most creative when I am collaborating with others.

Music facilitates my creative juices as well. A great song can transport me to a place and space where I can be creative.

I think you have to try lots of things before you truly figure it out.

Shaina, never underestimate your natural creative process. We all have it but the experience is different for everyone as we are all unique people with different experiences.

Your question is very interesting, important and it hits home as I most recently came up with an idea through talking with a friend and also from watching an inspiring interview. Personal creativity will never stop. It takes time to gain the inspiration, influences and interests that go into creating novels, articles, poems, music, plays, or anything you may be interested in. Try to be as authentic as possible. Sometimes other people will inspire you, but the creation will come from your personal viewpoint of the subject.

Take a situation and ask : What if ? Remember a dream you may have had - that came naturally for you. Think about your hobbies, style and interests and how things can be interwoven. Creativity doesn't need to be micro-managed or over thought. You'll see if you trust your instincts, stories or other things will come to you. You'll find you will have original ideas in any medium, writing, acting, painting, drawing, sculpture.

Best wishes on coming up with your own original ideas that will be an inspiration and touch others !

Katrina’s Answer

Personally, I would go out of my way to do non-routine activities - it could be a walk on the park, being in church in solitude or out on a vacation, in the beach or just out on my morning run! Another thing I would do is to bring a notepad with me, so I can jot down any thoughts/ideas that come naturally in these moments of silence.

Kristina’s Answer

It's completely normal to feel envious of those who seem to effortlessly generate creative and original ideas. Creativity is a complex process, and everyone experiences it differently. Here are some strategies that might help you boost your own creative thinking:

Cross-pollination: Learn from a wide variety of sources, disciplines, and cultures. Mixing different ideas often leads to innovative thinking.

Mind Mapping: Start with a central idea and create branches for related thoughts and concepts. This visual process can help generate new connections.

Free Writing: Set a timer and write continuously without worrying about grammar, punctuation, or even making sense. This can unlock new ideas.

Brainstorming: The key to brainstorming is not to judge any idea, no matter how outlandish it might seem. Quantity often leads to quality in this process.

Meditation & Relaxation: Stress can inhibit creativity. Try practicing mindfulness or other relaxation techniques to calm your mind and let ideas flow more freely.

Physical Movement: Exercise, especially in nature, can stimulate creativity. Even a short walk can make a big difference.

Sleep on It: Sometimes, taking a break from a problem allows your subconscious to work on it. Many people find that solutions often come when they're not consciously thinking about the issue.

Embrace Failure: Don't be afraid to take risks and make mistakes. Often, failure leads to the most creative solutions.

Remember, creativity isn't a fixed trait; it's a skill that can be developed. Just like any other skill, creativity requires practice. The more you make creativity part of your daily routine, the easier it will become to generate original ideas.

As for your admiration of people who are consistently creative, it's important to note that many of these individuals have spent years honing their creative abilities, and what you see is often the result of a lot of behind-the-scenes work. So don't be too hard on yourself. With practice and persistence, you can enhance your creative thinking abilities too.

Johnny’s Answer

Believe it or not, it is already something that is in you. It comes with time; it comes with conversations with others; it comes with research; it comes with reading, seminars, and being around others you look up to.

If you like, I would highly recommend reading a book called Daring Greatly. I've read twice a year over many years. (Brene Brown)

Throughout elementary school many, many years ago, I was dyslexic and called stupid. Nobody at that time knew what it was, but if you were to research people who have made something, other names, and lives, you would learn every one of them is creative.

What they did not realize was that being so, created a fire inside of me to not only prove others wrong but, more importantly, to prove to myself who I was.

Don’t for one minute think that very successful people are not insecure. The book I mentioned above will walk you through points about this very subject.

I’ve become very successful at what I do. I always learned from others by watching, asking questions, and then involving myself in conversations that were out of my comfort zone.

Never was I too proud to make fun of myself. To this day, I make a point to learn.

As I grew from high school on, I became more and more inquisitive and more and more successful. I was never afraid to make fun of my self, nor let my guard down.

To this day, I tell others that my success was not about me. It was about the people I surround myself, with who believed in me as a leader, and a motivator, and a person that cared more about their success than mine.

The fact of how you ask, your question proves to me, you may already know the answer. It is all within you.

Now go take on the universe.

Elena’s Answer

Hi Shaina!
Its normal to feel envious of other peoples creativity, its better than a lot of things you could be jealous of! However I would remind you that diversity, teamwork, honesty, and a bit of serendipity can help you, and those you work with, to successfully spark your creativity. Surround yourself with people that are different from you, be respectful of everyone's differences, values, and opinions, and expose yourself to surprising situations! I would also suggest communicating with open ended questions and good listening skills. Good luck!
-Ela

Elena recommends the following next steps:

Research the value of diversity.
Find individuals you can align and work with, regardless of differences.
Respectfully talk honestly with each other.
Go to new places, do new things, read or watch new content, just put yourself out there.
Record or log your thoughts and growth in the process, going back to read/watch old snippets of your life can be very thought provoking.

Mustabsheera’s Answer

Fostering creativity is a multi-faceted process that involves creating the right conditions for inspiration, exploration, and expression. Here are some strategies to help nurture and stimulate creativity:

Embrace Curiosity: Cultivate a curious mindset by being open to new experiences, ideas, and perspectives. Ask questions, seek knowledge, and explore different subjects outside of your comfort zone.

Create a Stimulating Environment: Surround yourself with stimuli that inspire creativity. This can include books, art, music, nature, or anything that sparks your imagination. Arrange your physical space in a way that encourages creativity, with access to materials and tools relevant to your interests.

Embrace Diverse Perspectives: Engage with people from diverse backgrounds and fields of expertise. Interacting with individuals who think differently can broaden your own thinking and inspire fresh ideas.

Practice Mindfulness and Reflection: Set aside time for quiet contemplation and self-reflection. Mindfulness practices, such as meditation, can help calm the mind, enhance focus, and increase awareness of your thoughts and emotions, allowing creative ideas to emerge.

Encourage Playfulness and Experimentation: Allow yourself to play, experiment, and take risks without the fear of judgment or failure. Engage in activities that spark joy and curiosity, such as doodling, brainstorming, or engaging in hobbies unrelated to work.

Seek Novel Experiences: Expose yourself to new experiences and environments. Travel, attend workshops or conferences, visit museums or art galleries, or simply take a different route to work. These experiences can stimulate your creativity by exposing you to unfamiliar concepts, cultures, and perspectives.

Set Aside Dedicated Creative Time: Schedule regular time for creative pursuits. It could be a specific hour each day or a designated day of the week. Protect this time and make it a priority to engage in activities that inspire and challenge your creativity.

Collaborate and Share Ideas: Engage in discussions and collaborations with others who share your interests or work in related fields. Sharing ideas, receiving feedback, and collaborating can spark new insights and generate fresh perspectives.

Embrace Failure and Learn from It: Recognize that failure is a natural part of the creative process. Embrace it as an opportunity to learn and grow, rather than a setback. Analyze what went wrong, make adjustments, and approach the next creative endeavor with renewed insights.

Practice Creative Exercises and Techniques: Explore creative exercises and techniques, such as brainstorming, mind mapping, journaling, or free writing. These practices can help loosen up your thinking, overcome creative blocks, and generate new ideas.

Remember that creativity is a skill that can be developed and strengthened over time. By incorporating these strategies into your routine and mindset, you can foster a more creative approach to problem-solving and expression.

Aristotle’s Answer

Whenever I sense my creativity dwindling, I step away from my familiar routine and seek inspiration from those around me. I venture into unexplored territories, immerse myself in fresh literature, music, or films, or engage in heartwarming conversations with my loved ones. Sometimes, I find solace in solitude and introspection. I journey back in time, relishing my past, reminiscing over cherished mementos. More often than not, a fresh wave of ideas washes over me, fueling my motivation to create anew.

Persist in your endeavors, and before you know it, you'll be basking in the glow of your own success!

- Some things that work for a lot of people are going to a new environment, reading, watching movies, talking to other people about your creative project
