In many states you can start teaching with a Bachelor’s Degree. If you want to teach Elementary School then make sure to take classes geared toward younger children do you are prepared for a job opening from Kindergarten to 6th grade. Also it would be best if you are also preparing to continue your education to get your Masters Degree. That carries a lot of weight with many schools. If you have the opportunity take summer jobs with schools - classroom aides jobs are always available at camps, day cares, summer schools, church programs. These will give you a good background for what to expect. If you go to church, volunteer as an aide with the Sunday School program. All of these are ways to begin to interact with students in a mini-class setting.

Greetings Chris,

Here is a link to the specific teacher license information in your area, https://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/certificate/certprocess.html. The general process is the same in most states in the US. Traditional route: HS, 4 yr College with education or specific major such as math, English, biology, chemistry, demo teaching/practicum, and testing for a license.

The WHY and WHAT LEVEL depends on you. My why is I love to help others and specifically love to help them learn things. I equally love learning myself and teaching allows me to continue learning many things. Each teacher has their own reason for being a teacher, you will need to explore and find what is your WHY. My level has been elementary primarily 4-6 grades. This is an area you will have to take time to feel out as you work. Most start at the point they think they will work best, but may change as they get experience. One way to try this out is to volunteer to work with different age-level groups to see which area you feel you would work with even if it means additional study or research to work better with them. You can volunteer for grades below your current grade level to get experience.

Best wishes for your future pursuits. It would be great to have more young people join the teaching ranks.

To begin with, obtaining a Bachelor's degree is essential, followed by participating in job shadowing or a teaching apprenticeship. Embarking on a teaching career can be truly rewarding if you're passionate about making a positive impact on students' lives. Your level of maturity will guide you in choosing the grade level that best suits your interests and abilities.
