Hi Emily!

Look at Disney Professional Internships. They have many environmental science internships. I completed the Education Presenter Disney Professional Internship as Disney's Animal Kingdom and it was the best experience of my life.

You can do a Disney internship while in college or up to a year after graduating.

You can also check out the Association of Zoo's and Aquariums internships- https://www.aza.org/jobs

Another great place to look at is the conservation job board- https://www.conservationjobboard.com

I hope this helps!

First, determine whether you want to focus on policy, education, or field work. Exploring various internships can help you decide. Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Forest Service, US Geological Survey, the Illinois Water Survey, State and Regional Parks all offer programs for young people to engage in field work. If you enjoy hands-on tasks and being outdoors, this is a great chance to learn about conservation practices, non-point source best practices, and how environmental work is carried out step by step. Field work can be extremely rewarding.

Libraries, corporations, water utilities, and state parks provide programs that educate, offer tours, and conduct public outreach. During warmer months, NGOs organize river cleanups and community events that require additional help for organization and execution. These opportunities are perfect for outgoing individuals who want to work with people and spread awareness.

Lastly, federal, state, and local government programs offer summer internships. For example, I was once a summer intern for the US EPA. Sustainability offices, county arborists, and DEQ all provide summer internships that can involve policy development, implementation, and data collection/documentation. This path is suitable for those who believe in promoting change through mandatory actions and programs. It's an opportunity to learn about effective strategies and the pace at which changes occur.
