The hardest thing about Derm is that it's very competitive. You need to be the best of the best in medical school. I think the reason why is their lifestyle is easier so everyone wants to go into Derm.

Scott’s Answer

I don't know what grade you are in, so I cannot answer the question of whether it is too early to apply to colleges but it's never too early to start thinking about it as you are. Typically, people apply in their senior year, after looking at colleges they are potentially interested in during their late junior and early senior years. In terms of being a dermatologist, probably the most difficult thing is first getting into medical school and then once there, being near the top of your class. After graduating from medical school, people need additional training first as an intern (1 year) and then as a resident (for dermatology 3 years). Getting into a dermatology training program is difficult as it is a very desirable specialty. This means that being one of the better students in medical school is crucial. One of the reasons I believe dermatology is such a desirable specialty is its relatively easier lifestyle. I wish you good luck in your journey.
