Hello,

It would be interesting you find a volunteer opportunity in the area of education with children in order to experience in practice the work that is developed in early childhood education. Another option would also be talking to professionals of this area, such as early childhood educators, recreationists, child development assistants and elementary education teachers in order to gather information about the work routine.

Maija’s Answer

Find some first hand experience first. My teaching degree in French covers all grades K to 12. I currently each kids aged 5 to 14. I have favorite ages and not so favorite, mostly due to developmental stages I am better equipped to handle. For me it has changed, when I started the idea of teaching Kindergarten freaked me out. They were so young, they would sit when I asked. They have to be reminded of the little things, names on papers, pencils. They are also very excited to learn it can be very inspiring. I was used to teaching 6th to 12th graders it was a change for sure.

"You're a French teacher, you will NEVER teach Kindergarten" my professors insisted. Well life has a way of being unpredictable and Kindergarten to 2nd grade is my favorite now!
