It depends how you measure success. If you mean financial success, I hate to say it, but no one really knows if that will happen for them, especially in the creative world. It's the exact reason why you'll hear professionals say to not be in it for the money - it's not guaranteed. If you love writing and documentary filmmaking, do it! Don't wait. Do it now. Keep doing it as long as you enjoy it, I promise that passion will shine through your work. You may find yourself being able to use those skills in ways you didn't expect. There will always be opportunities to make money using anyone's talents or skills.
Success is subjective. Don't do it for the money, do it for you. Your work will be much much better for it.

In any cases, there is no guarantee for success. It means you should do what interests you and makes you feel happy and confident. If your mentioned fields are in the scope of your greatest interests, do continue to follow those paths. Put a great effort and devotion into that work. And what comes next is uncertain, but it is the nature of life! So keep going towards your dreams!

One thing to keep in mind is that your success depends greatly on your attitude: Being overall positive (not fake hyper happy, but gently upbeat), your willingness to ask for help and learn from others, and being reliable - do what you say you're going to do. If dealing with you is nothing but arguments, or people can't count on you to get things done (even just showing up on time is important), none of the classes in the world will help you be successful.
