Yvonne’s Answer
With over three decades of experience as a Registered Nurse, I've had the privilege of serving in various capacities, from hospital-based trauma care to wound management for surgical patients. I've also had the opportunity to be part of the hospital's computer team, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to develop a computer system for medical documentation.
Currently, I am fulfilling my roles as a Psychiatric Visiting Nurse and a School Nurse. The love I have for my job, the joy of caring for those in need, and the satisfaction of making a difference, however small, in someone's life, is what drives me to work every day.
The diverse opportunities in nursing, tailored to match our skills and personalities, is something I deeply appreciate. My past experiences in the hospital have enriched me with invaluable knowledge, especially from my colleagues. This has empowered me to excel in my current roles, knowing that I have a supportive network of coworkers just a phone call away for any queries or collaboration.
Over the past 22 years, my job has not only provided me with a fulfilling career but also the flexibility to raise my two beautiful daughters. Now, I am looking forward to returning to school to broaden my horizons in Education, eager to share the wisdom I've gathered over the years.
My journey in this profession has been both challenging and rewarding, and I wouldn't change a thing. I hope my story inspires you.

Nursing brings me immense gratification.
Helping others and positively influencing their well-being is an opportunity I cherish. Nurses are crucial in delivering hands-on patient care, providing solace and assistance to those who need it. Observing patients' progress and recovery is truly rewarding.
I also treasure the chance to cooperate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, comprising doctors, therapists, and various specialists. This collective effort fosters a comprehensive approach to patient care and enables learning from others with diverse expertise.
also, the nursing field presents an extensive array of career options and specializations. Nurses have the freedom to work in numerous healthcare environments, such as hospitals, clinics, home care, schools, management, or research. This variety encourages us to discover our interests and chase our dreams within the profession.
I take pride in knowing that my work positively impacts people's lives and contributes to their overall well-being.

Raul, Barbara gave a great answer! I agree that being able to connect with patients and coworkers/colleagues is very rewarding. Patients spend more time with their nurses than with any other healthcare provider in almost all situations where they seek health care. Seeing them feel better because of how you've helped them is very gratifying.
I think one of the best things about nursing is the huge array of job opportunities there are available to you. There are also career ladder opportunities, especially if you pursue advanced degrees along the way. And you can change your mind as you get further into your career; what you think you want in nursing school might be different 20 years down the road. And you can choose a different path even then. We all have different personalities, and you will find the right fit for you--flexibility is key! You can't find this in many other careers.
If you aren't completely sure if you'd like being a nurse, think about what makes you happy or feel good, what your strengths are, and go from there. Talk to as many nurses as you can--and be sure to ask them what they DON'T like as well. You need a realistic picture because while it is a rewarding career, it can also be challenging at times.
